Engine Acoustic Cover Removal – BMW N52 6 Cylinder Engine
Step 1 - Purchase Parts
Cabin Filter
Cabin filters are something that is often overlooked in vehicle maintenance, but these filters are actually very important to both your comfort and health. Traditional cabin filters prevent pollen, dust, and other allergens from entering your vehicle's cabin, keeping your air as clean as possible. Cabin filters that feature an activated charcoal filter layer take it a step further to help eliminate unpleasant smells, especially useful in large cities or when passing smelly areas such as farms.
Step 2 - Repair Procedure
The N52 six-cylinder engine was found in many different BMW vehicles. The following instructions may differ slightly depending on year and model.
- In order to access the rear mounting screws on the acoustical cover, the filter housing covers must first be removed. Begin by turning the plastic locking clip (1) approximately 90 degrees counterclockwise until it releases from lower assembly.
- Use a flat blase screwdriver to release the metal locking clamp (2). Grasp the filter cover and remove from the vehicle.
Now is a great time to change out your cabin microfilters! See our parts list above for replacement microfilters for the N52 engine.
- Turn the plastic locking clips on both the left and right air inlet assemblies 90 degrees counterclockwise until they release.
- Remove the torx screw (2) on both assemblies. Grasp the assemblies and remove from the vehicle.
- Unfasten the mounting screws (1) and (3).
- Remove the oil filler cap (2).
- Grasp the acoustic cover and remove from the vehicle.
