A BMW E90 cup holder repair is a simple procedure that takes less than five minutes to perform.
The dashboard cup holders in 2007-2013 are notorious for breaking or becoming stuck in the closed position. Their retractable design makes them susceptible to becoming adhered shut after years of use...usually from sticky beverages spilling onto the internal mechanism. They are also prone to broken springs and internal plastic parts.
The good news is replacing a BMW E90 cup holder is an extremely simple repair for the home mechanic that can avoid an unnecessary (and expensive) trip to the dealership. A BMW E90 cup holder repair only takes about 5 minutes and costs less than $50.

Section 1 - BMW E90 cup holder removal and replacement
As discussed previously in this article, the cup holders in 2007-2013 BMW vehicles are very easy to replace. They are simply held in place by two phillips screws. Exercise caution when removing the dashboard trim to avoid cracking it.- Using a plastic trim removal tool, remove the cup holder trim cover. Start by carefully prying one side loose then using your hands to pull the trim free.
- Use a phillips screwdriver to remove the two cup holder mounting screws.
- Pull the old cup holder out of the dashboard.
- Install a new cupholder and reassemble.
