Our Review
The all-new seventh-generation BMW 7 Series luxury sedan is leading the luxury automobile segment into a new era of performance, luxury, sustainability and digitalization. BMW's flagship sedan is now available in two gasoline models: the six-cylinder 740i and the turbocharged eight-cylinder 760i xDrive. The all-electric BMW i7 is also available but is not covered in this article. The 2023 BMW 7 series offers an absurd amount of technology features including numerous display screens, optional 36 speaker Bowers and Wilkins audio system, and a "new interaction bar" that turns a dashboard trim strip into a touch sensitive control panel for climate control, hazard lights, glove box and door lock operation. The 2023 7 series unfortunately has not shed its horrid oversized front grills. The good news is the grills can be replaced with optional black ones that blend much better into the body and are not as noticeable.
The 2023 BMW 7 series offers two engine options, both of which are assisted by a 48-volt hybrid system. The 740i comes with a 375-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, and the 760i xDrive is propelled by an impressive 536-hp twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8. The 740i is available as a rear-wheel drive only, while the 760i comes equipped with all-wheel drive. Both come with standard air suspension with adaptive dampers incorporated into the chassis.
As the flagship model of BMW's lineup, the 2023 7 series is an oasis of luxury and convenience. Its luxurious genuine leather seats are stunning and compliment the charming wood and glass trim adorned throughout the cabin. While earlier generations were lacking in style and tech, this year's model comes equipped with an abundance of amenities like the BMW Curved Display, WiFi hotspot, smartphone charging ports, and even optional power-adjustable reclining rear seats with a massage feature. The trunk is large enough to satisfy most buyers, with enough room to accommodate suitcases for every passenger.
The 2023 BMW 7 series is packed with innovative infotainment and connectivity features. The cockpit has been redesigned with a modern look, and the 5.5-inch touchscreen displays allow passengers to control various comfort and media settings. The BMW Curved Display is a digital screen grouping consisting of a 12.3-inch information display behind the steering wheel and a 14.9-inch control display screen that is directed ergonomically toward the driver. The BMW Interaction Bar is a strip of lighting the entire cabin width that responds to entry and exit, houses touch controls for climate control, and increases the functionality of the ambient lighting system. The BMW Theater Screen is a 31.3-inch 8K touchscreen display that folds down from the headliner for rear seat passengers. With Amazon Fire TV integration, passengers can stream video and audio from countless apps, play games, watch downloaded content, and get information like weather forecasts. The 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system is standard, with an optional "4D" Bowers & Wilkins Diamond system with up to 36 speakers and nearly 2,000 watts of power available. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone integration are also available, as well as wireless device charging, navigation, satellite radio, Bluetooth, and USB ports.
The 2023 BMW 7 series comes packed with updated safety and driver-assistance features. Automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection is included, as well as a lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist. Adaptive cruise control with a semi-autonomous driving mode makes the car easy to drive. The Parking Assistance package enables the vehicle to reverse down tricky driveways and park itself autonomously. Available Standard NHTSA and IIHS safety ratings for the 7 series have yet to be released, but given BMW's track record in terms of safety, we can expect the car to perform very well in crash tests. For more information about the 3-series crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. The 2023 BMW 7 series comes with various warranty and maintenance coverage options that are sure to satisfy drivers of all kinds. A three-year or 36,000-mile complimentary scheduled maintenance plan is included on every 7-series, making it one of the most comprehensive warranties in its class. The limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles, while the powertrain warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles. In addition, complimentary maintenance is covered for three years or 36,000 miles. Drivers who exceed these mileages may want to consider an extended warranty. Key Safety features include:
