Our Review
The all-new 2023 BMW X7's continued exterior refinement and plethora of added features make BMW's most prominent luxury vehicle an enticing choice among the competition. It offers two of BMWs most engaging engines depending on your budget: a 375-hp turbo-six to an exhilarating 523-hp twin-turbo V-8, making it one of the most powerful SUVs on the market. In addition to a suave interior, it also has an impressive selection of features, including the massive BMW Curved Display touchscreen. With standard active-safety features that top their class, the 2023 X7 is more of a reinforced tank than an SUV and, as such, is unquestionably one of the safest SUVs on the road.

The 2023 BMW X7 is available with three engine options, all of which are paired with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, all-wheel drive, and the latest generation of 48V mild hybrid technology. The entry-level xDrive40i is powered by a 380-hp turbocharged inline-six-cylinder that produces 398 lb-ft of torque, while the M60i has a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 that comes in at 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. The Alpina XB7 has a specially tuned version of that V8, which grants 630 hp. Every X7 rides on an air suspension with adaptive dampers, while available rear-axle steering and active antiroll bars are optional upgrades.

The large Curved Display dominates the interior of the 2023 X7, and it includes a 12.3-inch gauge cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. Standard luxury features include ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, power-adjustable seats, a power-adjustable steering wheel, and beautiful Vernasca leather. You can also choose interior trim in Carbon Fiber if that's your preference. The back seats are less roomy than expected for adults, but when the captain's chairs are in the forward position, they provide plenty of legroom. There is no question about the X7's interior cubby and luggage space however, as you can fit close to 32 suitcases with all of the back seats stowed.

The new X7 offers luxury and connectivity like never before with its state-of-the-art 14.9" inch touchscreen infotainment system (BMW Curved Display) operated through the brand new iDrive 8 software that can also be controlled by a large rotary knob on the dashboard. Gesture control is also available though it's a bit gimmicky, and for smartphone users, a wireless charging pad is optional if you're willing to pay extra for it. In addition, every model is equipped with BMW's Digital Key, allowing full remote access via a smartphone app. Additional optional upgrades include a Harmon/Kardon stereo and Wi-Fi hotspot (subscription required).

The 2023 X7 is well endowed with a variety of standard driver-assistance tech and several additional advanced options. On June 29th, 2023 at approximately 8:45 AM we were pulling into a parking space slowly tapping the brakes to slow and stop the vehicle. About 2/3 of the way into the parking stall around 3 or 4 feet from the curb, the vehicle actually accelerated while pressing the brake jumping the curb. We pressed on the brakes again and the car accelerated even faster crossing the sidewalk crashing into a building. We believe the brakes caused the SUA (Sudden Unintended Acceleration) accelerating the vehicle twice and the vehicle failed to apply the brakes. We believe this would've been caused by a computer error on the vehicle. We also believe the vehicle to initiate the two safety systems failed, Crash Imminent Braking & Dynamic Brake Support thus being able to avoid the accident. To the best of our knowledge, no warnings or alerts were displayed on the vehicle before the crash. We had BMW inspect the vehicle and no defective part was found and the black box indicated the vehicle was accelerating a few seconds before the crash. We do not disagree with this and informed BMW that the car was accelerating on it's own.Complaint Date:

Our vehicle dies while driving down the highway, twice now in less than 30 days. I drivetrain and low-power warning came on, but the car died and wouldn't start. The obvious risk is that we were driving on the highway and barely avoided being in an accident as I tried to steer us off the road. The second time we were at a park. In both instnances, the temperature was over 100 degrees and my 3 and 5 year old both got sick from overheating. We were stranded in the middle of nowhere. The dealership said "it probably just overheated, we couldn't find anything" but assure us it won't happen again. It did less than 30 days later.Complaint Date:

Driving south on I-65 during heavy rainfall with windshield wipers on “auto.” Windshield wipers failed and became stuck in vertical position (picture attached). Immediately could not see the road, and had to navigate in heavy rain from far left lane to emergency lane. Could have caused a major fatality given the lack of visibility with no windshield wipers during heavy rain. Windshield wipers remain stuck, and will not go back to resting horizontal position. Wiper motor will click like it wants to engage, but no result, so does not appear to be relay/fuse issue. No warning lights or any indication of a possible failure. Service apt setup to have issue looked at.Complaint Date:

When the brake issues occured you would press them and it would barely stop and create a very unsafe situation.Complaint Date:

The Soft Close feature of the car continues to close even if there is a hand or finger in its way, I crushed by thumb while getting out of the car. I am concerned about the safety of the feature especially if there are young kids in the car, the injury could have been much more serious.Complaint Date:

On multiple occasions since purchasing my vehicle in 10/22 the lane departure warning system on my 2023 BMW X7 has detected a lane departure and self corrected the steering wheel causing the vehicle to swerve when the vehicle was safely in the lane. The most recent event being 3/31/23. Sewell BMW in Grapevine Tx has attempted to fix this issue multiple times with no success. As of today, 4/5/23, my vehicle is currently at Sewell BMW attempting to fix this issue. Sewell BMW has been provided with a photo of the error message from my vehicle detecting multiple lane departures and turning off the lane departure system in my vehicle. On 3/31/23 I confirmed with management and service that my vehicle “should not be doing this”. Per Sewell BMW, BMW corporate is now involved with this issue. This is a huge safety concern and has the potential to cause an accident, injury, or death if not corrected properly.Complaint Date:
