Our Review
The 2021 BMW 3-Series is the quintessential sports sedan for today's driving enthusiasts. Delivering both power and poise, this German beauty packs a dynamic punch through two outstanding gas engines—a 255hp four-cylinder and an impressive 382hp straight six — plus a plug-in hybrid option to satisfy eco-friendly motorists. While manual transmission purists will be disappointed by its removal from this year's iteration, they can take solace in knowing that the 8-speed automatic still offers plenty of responsiveness and agility. Unfortunately, the steering (still) lacks some of that classic BMW tactility, though it has been significantly enhanced from generations past. The exterior styling of the 3-Series is unmistakably BMW - with its elongated hood and classic lines - but it still manages to look modern with its sculpted sides and striking headlights. With ample cabin & trunk space, luxurious features & cutting-edge tech integration wrapped up into one package - we’re proud to put our stamp on it: Enthusiasts Approved.
The 2021 BMW 3-Series packs quite a punch under the hood, regardless of which model you choose. The 330i features a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 255 horsepower and 295 lb/ft of torque. The top-of-the-line M340i model pairs with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and a 48-volt hybrid system, totaling 382 hp and 369 lb/ft. The 330e plug-in hybrid combines a turbo 2.0-liter engine with an electric motor that generates 288 horses and 310 pound-feet; this setup also includes Xtraboost which provides an extra kick to your acceleration...reminiscent of nitrous oxide. All three powertrains are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission that seamlessly transitions from relaxed cruising to sharp turns with plenty of power to match. All models come standard with rear-wheel drive, though buyers can upgrade to an all-wheel drive system for an additional cost. The 3-Series has made significant strides in steering and driving dynamics over its predecessor. The electric steering in the 3 Series has always been notoriously sketchy, providing poor feedback to the driver. The steering feel in the 2021 BMW 3 Series is significantly improved, providing drivers with more accurate road surface feedback than ever before and offering them a sense of control even during sharp turns. Suspension wise you have a choice between the base arrangement or the upgrade featuring adaptive dampers. Moreover, the success of the M340i proved this new generation could compete head-to-head with some of the most stylish rides on the market, while still delivering exceptional body control.
Fuel Economy
EPA estimates for the four-cylinder 330i reach up to 26 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway, and the more powerful six-cylinder M340i top out at 23 mpg city and 32 highway. In addition, we can also expect impressive fuel efficiency from the rear-drive, plug-in-hybrid variant with a combined estimate of 28 mpg and an all-electric range of 23 miles - though both figures drop by 3 for the all-wheel-drive PHEV.There is a lot to love about the interior of this year's 3-Series. BMW takes luxury to a whole new level with its modern, sophisticated design and impressive build quality. All the controls are easily accessible, while better visibility ensures a safer driving experience. Sport seats come standard, and they offer an adjustable setting so you can customize your space to suit your needs. If you want even more luxury, consider adding a head-up display, ambient interior lighting, or wireless charging. Clutter isn't an issue in the instrument cluster...take note of the counterclockwise tachometer needle if you haven't experienced it before. Whether you choose the gas-powered model with 17 cubic feet of trunk space or the 330e with 13 cubes, you can fit plenty of suitcases for your weekend getaway. Unsurprisingly, its abundance of cargo space outshines its competitors (like the Mercedes C300 and Alfa Romeo Giulia) in this segment.
Designed to offer convenience and entertainment, the 2021 BMW 3 Series infotainment system includes an intuitive menu structure anchored by an 8.8-inch touchscreen, with controls via voice commands and the standard rotary knob and buttons. The BMW 3 Series comes standard with Live Cockpit Plus and is upgradeable to Live Cockpit Pro with iDrive, its most advanced version of the technology. Don't forget Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a subscription-based WiFi hotspot. Gesture Control has returned for 2021 but is more of a conversation starter than a useful tool. This innovative feature allows you to control certain functions through hand gestures. However, this can be more gimmicky than useful at times. It also supports hands-free calling via Bluetooth connection and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility so you can access your favorite apps from your smartphone directly on your vehicle’s display screen. Plus, it comes standard with USB ports so you can charge your devices on long road trips too!
As a BMW enthusiast, you know that their vehicles come with notable safety features. While they skimp out on some standard driver-assistance tech, there's still plenty to get excited about. Stepping up to the Parking Assistance package gives you practically autonomous parking capabilities. Other state-of-the-art options include blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert systems as well as lane departure warnings for keeping safe out on the roads - plus adaptive cruise control too! Key Safety Features Include:
When it comes to warranties and maintenance, BMW goes the extra mile. Their four years or 50,000 miles coverage on both limited and powertrain policies is competitive amongst rivals such as Audi and Mercedes-AMG; plus their complimentary maintenance plan lasts longer than those alternatives too.

On 5/22/24 had a catastrophic failure of the Electric Motor Electronics and 12v Battery. I have requested that the BMW Serice Assistant provide me with all affected parts for inspection. Shutdown of the vehicle high voltage system could result in a crash. When this part fails along with the 12v battery you lose control of all vehicle electronics (steering, braking, electrical power, and propulsion). Yes, there was a previous voluntary recall campaign 19V-599s Service Information Bulletin (Revision 2) which replaced SI B12 27 19 dated October 2019 by BMW for this device. The vehicle and component has been inspected by the Richmond BMW Service Technician. I started to experience problems with the vehicle in late April and took it in for servicing and repair in early May. I was told that the problem was a computer programming recall that was fixed.Complaint Date:

In Buford GA at the corner of Elm Tree Terrace and Buford Dam road, I was waiting for the light to turn on a decline. It is important to note that the car was driving in all-electric mode on a full charge. Once the light turned green I stepped on the accelerator to go and the car stalled. I believe the transmission slipped. The gears caught at high torque and jolted the car involuntarily forward. I didn't notice it at first but after a couple of sleepless nights with shoulder pain: I got an MRI and was found to have a torn rotator cuff. It is difficult to associate the injury as it is hard to access the force applied to the jolt. The only word I can use to describe the force of the jolt was violent. I believe there is a safety issue when a high torque electric motor is being run through a slipping or failing transmission and I suspect as a result I have suffered a injury as a result.Vehicle Specifications
