Our Review
BMW recently unveiled the all-new 2023 X3, and it is nothing short of amazing. This year's rendition offers refined performance, slightly tweaked aesthetics, and a number of brand-new standard and optional upgrades. The interior is just as luxurious as you would expect from BMW, with comfortable seating for five and plenty of legroom and headroom. The dashboard is equipped with the latest in advanced technology, including a central touchscreen display, an intuitive iDrive control system, and a full suite of BMW's exclusive driving aids. The 2023 X3 is fitted with an updated version of BMW's renowned xDrive AWD system, providing improved handling and performance on any terrain. Additionally, BMW's iconic SUV is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a 248 hp turbo-four or 382 hp turbo-six engine, providing plenty of power under the hood.
The engine and transmission in the 2023 BMW X3 are something to be desired by other auto manufacturers. The 248-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the sDrive30i and xDrive30i delivers excellent power and is well-suited to any terrain. However, those in the market for a more performance-oriented SUV will be drawn to the M40i. Its 382-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine offers the necessary kick with its 4.1-second 0-60 time. Even though it doesn't quite match the athleticism of the Porsche Macan, the X3 runs toe to toe with most other SUVs in its segment. The all-wheel-drive of the xDrive30i provides a significant upgrade in power and handling while also providing a smooth ride. The adaptive suspension, coined Dynamic Damper Control, is perfectly balanced providing a firm ride with just enough of a sporty feel that it isn't overly rough. Dynamic Damper Control also adds three driving modes to the xDrive 30i: Comfort, Sport, and Eco Pro.
A 10-way power-adjustable front seat, as well as a set of adjustable side bolsters, ensure a comfortable driving experience even before you select any packages. The interior cabin materials are high-quality and the panel gaps are evenly spaced. Our test vehicle featured glossy woodgrain trim which, despite being constructed of plastic, appeared and felt real. We were impressed with the quality of the faux leather dash and door covers, which are stitched to add an additional level of luxury to the vehicle, as well as the nickel-finish metal trim. When we tested the carry-on suitcase of the X3, we found it to perform about average. The second row of seats can accommodate 20 carry-ons with room left over for two extras. 20 carry-ons can be accommodated for every occupant.
BMW's iDrive interface provides everything you need from a luxury crossover's infotainment system. It comes with a 10.3-inch infotainment display that has in-dash navigation as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You can also get a 12.3-inch infotainment display. Bluetooth phone connectivity, Wi-Fi hotspot, and USB port are all standard, but you can get other features as optional extras like a second USB port or a wireless smartphone charging pad.
All X3 trims come equipped with an array of standard and optional driver assistance and safety features. Standard features include forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alerts, lane departure warnings, and front-and-rear parking assist. Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites for more information about the X3's crash-test results. Key safety features include:
BMW's X3 does not have a particularly impressive warranty. The four-year/50,000-mile basic warranty is about what you would expect in this segment. Three years of complimentary scheduled maintenance are nice, but it is also offered on many other luxury crossovers.
