The BMW 7 Series has always been a vehicle that's aimed squarely at the upper-tier luxury buyer. Its latest iteration, introduced for the 2022 model year, continues that tradition with a wealth of features and options that are sure to appeal to those who want the best of the best. The 7 Series has various engines and trim levels depending on how deep you want to dip into your wallet. The base model 740i is well priced for its class and comes standard with all-wheel drive and a turbocharged inline-six engine. If you can afford to take your luxury performance to a higher level, there are also the 750i and M760i, which come with V8 and V12 engines, respectively.

The 2022 7 Series is a spaciously sized cruiser that handles well on both highways and city streets. Its interior is luxuriously appointed with the highest quality materials, and its array of electronic options and gadgets will satisfy the pickiest of high-end connoisseurs. Its exterior is graciously designed and is pleasing to the eye...other than the oversized and obnoxious front grills.

The 740i is powered by a 335-hp turbocharged inline-six mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard on this model and helps it get off the line quickly when you punch the accelerator down to the floor. In our testing, the 740i went from zero to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds— an impressive time for a six-cylinder engine in such a large vehicle. We also found the 740i's steering sharp and precise, and the suspension did an admirable job soaking up bumps in the road. The 750i comes with a twin-turbo V8 that generates 523 horsepower and 553 pounds of torque. The flagship M760i sports a twin-turbocharged V12 and delivers a staggering 600 horsepower and 627 pounds of torque.

The BMW 7 Series is known for its roomy and high-class interior, and this year doesn't change a thing. It has plenty of room for passengers to stretch out in both the front and rear seats and uses premium-grade materials throughout the cabin creating a plethora of soft-touch surfaces. In addition, BMW offers a long list of optional features to enhance further the 2022 BMW 7 Series' luxurious feel, including massaging and ventilated front seats, power side sunshades for the rear passengers, and a panoramic moonroof. The 7 Series has 18 cubic feet of trunk space which is average for the class. Unfortunately, this size is a bit misleading - due to the fact that the depth of the trunk grossly exceeds its width creating a storage area that is difficult to get luggage for more than three people. The interior storage space in the 7 Series is more than ample.

The 2022 BMW 7 Series comes standard with the BMW iDrive infotainment system featuring a 10.3-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay support, navigation, voice recognition, a 12-speaker audio system, two USB ports, Bluetooth, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Optional features include a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, a rear-seat entertainment system, and wireless device charging. The iDrive infotainment system is easy to use thanks to its large touch screen and straightforward menus.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2022 7 Series a five-star rating for overall safety, with perfect scores in the side crash and rollover tests. A backup camera comes standard on all models. At the same time, higher trims can be outfitted with features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeps assist, blind spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and a surround-view camera system. BMW covers the 7 Series with a four-year/50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a six-year/70,000-mile powertrain warranty. Complimentary maintenance is included for the first four years or 50,000 miles.

Issue:

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling one 2022 745e hybrid electric vehicle. The high voltage battery may have been produced with a battery cell electrode that was improperly sized during the laser cutting process, which may result in an electrical short-circuit.

Remedy:

Dealers will replace the affected battery cell module, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed on November 30, 2022. Owners were contacted by phone and by First Class mail on October 28, 2022. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
